yarn love + Passion Pit by jen geigley

This is pretty much the color scheme at my house this fall. Purples, turquoise blues, reds, greeny/blueish stormy grays. I've been indulging and splurging on some extra-luxurious yarn (like Malabrigo and Twinkle) to make some super huge cowls to sell at all of the upcoming craft fairs this fall. It's totally worth it to make things I love and want to wear myself.
I've also been super excited to finally see the newest color additions to one of my most favorite yarns, Lion Brand Wool Ease Thick and Quick. I always have to order my favorite colors online (boo) because my local chain stores never carry the colors I want. The first three skeins pictured here are new colors (and I'm in love with all of them.) Cobalt, glacier and eggplant (which looks almost black here, but it's a deep gorgeous plum color.)
Totally unrelated, (although the colors in these pics remind me of the colors in my first yarn photo,) I got the chance to check out Passion Pit at the Val Air Ballroom on Monday night.
I went solo but ended up hanging around some of the scooter gang friends (Jordan, Sarah and Garrett) plus a fellow blogger pal, Stacey from Island Canary. It was a great night of energetic get-up-and-dance tunes with that crazy falsetto that Michael Angelakos is known for. I was curious to see how they'd pull off their radio songs live, so it was a pretty rad show overall. And they surprised us with a cover of 'Dreams' by the Cranberries. Fun stuff. (What have you been up to this week?)

new YGG stuff (and coming soon ... something BIG.) by jen geigley

Just a heads up on some new t-shirts from your favorite t.v. show and mine, Yo Gabba Gabba. (Check out all the characters on that 'all my friends are different' t-shirt! Way cool.) They're available now at www.yogabbagabbawebstore.com and they're offering friends and fans an exclusive 20% off the entire store through October 13th. (Just use promo code YGGFB at checkout.)
I'm sure you've seen the newest episode, School, with special guest Angela Kinsey from The Office and Super Music Friends Show guest, The Faint. We kind of loved it.
And these rad kicks from Vans are rumored to be available in time for holiday delivery. I'm pretty sure they're just making kids' sizes, but I totally want some, too!
You can score all of this new Brobee gear at Journeys Kidz online and in stores.
Moby was the super music friends show guest at Yo Gabba Gabba Live At Radio City Music Hall in NYC yesterday.
AND. I have something BIG to share really, really soon. If you're a Gabba fan, you're going to want to keep checking back here to see what it is. Razzle dazzle.

braided by jen geigley

So, like many of you, I have been perusing Anthro's new looks for fall '10. And I stopped in my tracks when I saw this particular photo. Dude. A knitted/braided headwrap.
And then, as I was skimming through my Google Reader, I happened upon more braidy wonders at one of my favorite blogs, Knight Cat.
And, so you know I immediately thought 'I need to knit something like that.' And so I experimented with cables and braiding and what-not.
And came up with this pattern, which you can download for free ... Braided on Ravelry. For you! Knit away! You'll surely find a zillion occasions to wear this rad ear-warmer/headband when things get chilly in your neck of the woods.

Market Day (in photos) by jen geigley

The best part of participating in Market Day is the people you meet, talk to, and become fast friends with. I've loved getting the chance to hang out with all of these creative local people and all of the cool things they make. Here's a little photo-filled recap of last week's Market Day, in case you missed it.
Market Day co-founder Scott Kubie was in charge of spinning the vinyl during the show.
Two of our scooter friends Luke Healey and Thai Luong stopped by, cameras in hand.
And I finally got to hang out with this extremely awesome and talented girl, My Bach.
She took some pretty fantastic photos of the Market Day vendors while she was there. (Like this one. She shoots film, people! Very cool.)
Here's my friend, Lara Newsom of Handmade Pretties, working on some custom orders while she hangs in her bat cave. (Ha ... we just call it that. Lara makes so much stuff that sometimes you can barely see her through all of her amazing hand-sewn awesomeness.)
And my pal Dani Ausen/Awesome, being awesome.
Darby of DarbyCakes, with her always delicious cupcake flavors, kept us fed.
And Van Holmgren, a very talented local artist. I purchased a series of snake prints from him and have my eye on several of his paintings.
Meanwhile, my booth looked a little bit like this. Piles and piles of hand-knits, which was a good thing, because it was a chilly day and people were in the mood for big chunky scarves and cowls. One young woman said that when she saw my table, she wanted to wrap herself up and snuggle into the scarf pile. It was such a fun day, and I already can't wait until the next show at the end of the month. (If you've never been, you should definitely try and make it to the next one ... October 30th, if you want to mark your calendar!)

First Friday by jen geigley

Need something to do tonight? All of my most very favorite East Village shops are open a little later tonight. Check out all of the special events above! Jeff Bonker art reception at Raygun, craft night at Vitae, felt flower/bow hairpin make+take at Domestica, Basemint reception at Ephemera and so much more. Gotta love it. (Happy Friday!)

hello october by jen geigley

Well friends, last week was the official first day of fall and it's really feeling like the seasons are changing around here. September has absolutely flown by and even though there have been pumpkins and skeletons and candy corn in the stores since August, I feel like October has completely snuck up on me!
I wanted to thank my awesome September blog sponsors (who are still linked up on the right-hand sidebar ... check them out.) Would you like to advertise during the month of October? Click on 'advertising info' for the deets or email me at jgeigley [at] gmail [dot] com if you're interested. Thanks so much and happy fall.
